We are always ready
to welcome dynamic people who wish to promote the Calgary Stampede.
Every year, immediately following Stampede, the Volunteer Services Coordinator
accepts applications from interested potential volunteers and sets up
interviews normally during the fall.
THE VOLUNTEER SYSTEM
The envy of fairs and exhibitions across North America, the Calgary
Stampede is literally run by people who volunteer their time. The year
round Stampede staff are, in effect, hired by the volunteer organization
to run the day to day operation...a multi million dollar not-for-profit
corporation.
Our committee is one of the largest, comprised of 130 +/- people. We
have an executive and three active sub-committees: Events, Summer Programs
and Support.
Your first year is probationary...to see if you enjoy working on the
committee and are able to function comfortably within the guidelines
of our mandate. It is very much a position of trust. During that time,
you will be 'buddied' up with an existing committee member to show you
the ropes. After a full season of participation, you may be invited
to come on permanent strength as a Volunteer.
Because we are actively engaged on and off park throughout the year,
we meet for a few hours every month to administer committee business
and stay abreast of Stampede initiatives.
Should you accept the challenge to become a Calgary Stampede Volunteer,
you will be given a pin (just prior to Stampede) which entitles you
access both Stampede Park and the Grandstand.
Recognizing the need to dress western, you also get 10% off at a number
of participating western wear stores. One of your best deals will be
at Stampede Slim's...where you get a 25% discount on everything in the
store!
After about 2 years, you may be promoted to Associate. The next step
in the hierarchy is to become a Senior Associate. At this point you
not only receive your pin...but as well, a parking pass that entitles
you to access Stampede Park on a year round basis. You also receive
preferential parking during the 10 days of the Calgary Stampede.
Once you have attained the position of Senior Associate, you are eligible
to become a Shareholder and take an active role in the decision process
of the organization.
As the Calgary Stampede is a not-for-profit organization, there are
no financial dividends paid to the shareholders. Payday happens every
time you are engaged in any activity which promotes the Greatest
Outdoor Show on Earth!
